What is a human-machine work system? Conceptually, this is a loop of information exchanges occuring between human and machine culminating in a task's completion. In this loop, information is transferred from the machine to the human via displays and from the human to the machine by way of control devices. Both machine and human transform the information they recieve through a conversion process where decisions are made or commands are executed before passing the information back through the loop. Design and Developement of Human-Machine Work Systems In designing a human-machine system, engineers will generally use task analysis in order to break down the job that the system is intended to do into several tasks. These tasks are then assigned during function allocation either to the machine or to the user based on lists of human and machine strengths. This insures that the human-machine work system that results is more effective than either human or machine working seperately.
