Human Factors Engineering is an integral component of the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology. This component evolved as a responce to the need to create human-machine systems that were not only safe to the human user but also more effective than either human or machine working seperately. There are two types of human-machine systems: open-loop and closed-loop. In the panel to your left you will notice that there are links to these as well as to human-machine work systems and hand tools. These links will guide you to the other pages of this web site. Those pages present a concise clear introduction to these subjects employing examples that will help to demonstrate and clarify your understanding of them. We included a section on hand tools as they are one of the most commonly used and easy to understand human-machine systems. For this reason they provide the perfect setting in which to present the importance of safety in designing H-M systems. We hope you will enjoy this site. Thank you for visiting us.
