Internet Explorer Chapter 1:

Welcome to Cyberspace: The Internet and the World Wide Web

(Toward the back of Volume I, with light green page number flags)

1. Read pages 2 to 9

2. Take Knowledge Test K03 if you have not done so.

3. Do Hands-on Exercise 1: Introduction to the World Wide Web

a.      Step 1. You may also start Internet Explorer by double-clicking the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.

b.     Step 3.   Instead of "Nationline", click the link to "News Briefs" on the left side of the page.

c.    Step 4 print only the first page. (Select Print pages 1 to 1 in the print dialog box). Add your name and computer # to the printout as instructed below:

·        Click “File” on the menu bar, then click “Page Setup”

·        A “page setup” window should appear. Locate the “headers and footers” section in the middle of the window.

·        Click in the header box such that the insertion bar is positioned at the end of the text in the box.

·        Press space bar once to insert a blank space. Then enter your name and computer #

·        Click OK to close the window. Now you have entered your name in the header of the printout.

c.      Step 6 print only the first page.

4. Read pages 15 to 18.

5. Do Hands-on Exercise 2: Finer Points of Internet Explorer

a. Skip Step 3

b. Step 6: After you entered a question, print the first page of the results you get from querying the online support web page, check that your name is included in the header or the footer, hand in your printout as part of your assignment.

6. Do problems 1, 3 and 5 at the end of the chapter on pages 30 to 33.

a. Before printing, make sure your name and computer #will appear on the printout. Print out one page for each problem. Do not print out a separate cover page as requested in the book. Add any comments and summary on the same pages that you will turn in.

7. Staple and turn in your printouts. Use this sheet as cover adding your section, name and computer number.

8. Do assignment TA02: Internet on http://trainassess.phgenit.com/. You have both this class and the next class to work on it.
