Biographical Sketch

HENRY A. WALKER
was born and reared in Kansas City, Kansas and completed elementary and secondary schooling in the Kansas City, Kansas public school system.  He attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College and served with the U. S. Army in Vietnam (1968-1969).  After completing military service, Walker began studies in sociology, first at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and later at Stanford University.  Dr. Walker began his teaching career at Kansas City's Donnelly Community College (1972-1974).  Dr. Walker was Professor of Sociology at Cornell University (1991-2000) before moving to Arizona for the 1999-2000 academic year.

Professor Walker specializes in theoretical methods, legitimation processes and laboratory studies of stratification and power.   He has particular interests in legitimacy processes as they affect the stability of micro- and macro-stratification systems and in understanding how societal definitions of race and gender affect microstratification processes in mixed-race and mixed-gender settings.
