Here is the first of four examples of the stereotypical outdoor leisure identity. This advertisement from Outside magazine practically defines the outdoor leisure identity; the ad is set in the Great Outdoors, and the models (young, athletic, adventurous, rugged, and white) are participating in some type of outdoor recreation. This example is representative of the typical outdoor advertisements that appear in Time and Outside magazines.

Here is another prime example of the stereotypical outdoor leisure identity, also taken from Outside magazine. Once again the ad is set in the Great Outdoors, far removed from the urban environment, or as the text of the ad puts it, a "secluded location." This ad depicts one of the most common outdoor recreational activities, camping, and once again, all of the models are white.

Here is one more look at the stereotypical outdoor leisure identity; the models (young and adventurous) are participating in some type of outdoor leisure (rock climbing). Again, this ad is representative of the type of ads that dominate Outside magazine and are fairly common in Time, but are virtually non-existant in Ebony.
