ASSIGNMENT 1

 

Volume I

Getting Started: Essential Computing Concepts

(Last chapter on Volume I, with pink page number flags)

 

1    Knowledge test (demonstration)

2.      Read pages 2 to 44

 

3.      Do questions on pp. 45-46 (answers are given at the bottom of page 46, do not hand in)

 

4.      Use the U of A homepage located at www.arizona.edu. Access Student Link

i.         Click the Registration/RSVP link. Then click the WebReg link

ii.    Find and print your semester schedule.

iii.       Request your Student Academic Progress Report (SAPR) (This is confidential information, so find it but do not print it)

5.      Each student is required to have an email account and a menu account on the u.arizona.eduserver. If you do not them , obtain the accounts (username@u.arizona.edu) by using the Begin Account Process Link in http://account.arizona.edu, follow the directions to obtain a new e-mail account and a menu account. If you have an account but you forgot your password, follow the same link and follow the iinstructions to obtain a new password. 

6.      If you have a personal WWW home page at www.u.arizona.edu, you may skip this step. Using secure shell telnet, connect to u.arizona.edu. Select the MENU option after you have logged in. Next, select MISC and then HOME PAGE and HOME PAGE again to create a home page.  Select REGISTER to register your homepage.

7.    Start Internet Explorer and access your web page at www.u.arizona.edu/~username. "username" is your user name on the u.arizona.edu system. Print out your web page.

8.      Using your u.arizona.edu account, send an e-mail message to both your instructor and TA. The email should contain the following information:  your name, e-mail address, whether you have successfully created a menu.u.arizona.edu account, the web address for your personal homepage created in step 5,  whether you have obtained a CD and a PIN number from Prentice Hall (both sould be wrapped together with your textbooks), and why you are taking the class. Open U of A Web Mail or OLD E-mail to send the e-mail.

9.      Staple and turn in your printouts. Use this sheet as cover adding your section, name and computer number.

10.  Walk through of account registration for training and assessment (PH Generation IT) assignment and demonstration of TA assignment.

Open Internet Explorer. Type "http://trainassess.phgenit.com/" in the address box.

Click on "New User". Fill-in the required information in the registration page. Write down your user ID and password somewhere for safe keeping. Use "3nv33umk" for Course/Section Code. The PIN should be on a card in the textbook you purchased.

Click next to finish the registration. Log in using your user ID and the password you have created. Click on "My statistics". "UofA ABE120 Section 6" should be diaplayed somewhere on the page.

To start a TA module, click on "My modules". Then click on the desired module to begin.
