The Ocean
Yes, as I'm sure you are all wondering, I
am still alive, despite the UA's many attempts on my life.
Just kidding! My time, not my life, has been taken. I've been
a busy girl. This is one of those times when you just look
at the calendar and say to yourself, "when the hell did
March get here?!?" My classes continue to be challenging,
yet interesting (to varying degrees), while my three labs
have proven to be re-god-damn-diculously demanding. I did
well on my first round of tests, particularly O-chem. My labs
on the other hand were surprisingly sub-standard according
to my TA's, but no worries because I was able to rock their
socks with my next few lab reports. Enough about boring school,
though...on to something important ;). (That one was for my
dad, neglecting the fact that he doesn't check this site)
Outside of school I've been seemingly busy
as well. Work at the Cordes lab has been rather slow, but
I've still been doing some reading (i.e. Nobel lectures and
NMR textbooks), and steadily moving along with my spiffy protein
that no one cares about. As of Tuesday, I'll have a ton of
data that I'll be spending god knows how many hours in front
of a computer wading through in order to determine the secondary
structure. I will also get another new project hopefully soon
so that I'll be able to do some bench work too. I've spent
a fair amount of time preparing for the Honors Research Grant
Forum and a couple associated socials since then. I also put
forth quite an effort to complete my application for St. Andrews
in Scotland. I turned it in maybe 4-5 weeks ago and it was
in the mail as of three weeks ago. Now I have somewhere between
three months to infinity to wait until I hear about acceptance.
All I can do is wait, but if you want to help, just send "pro-Wendy"
thoughts towards Scotland when it crosses your mind. I have
had an audition or two from Leighton Agency, one of which
I was booked for, Barbie in Fairytopia.
Now if you think that I'm working too hard, don't worry.
I'm still finding ways to have fun. The most evident of which
would be the nearly ridiculous amount of time I've been spending
with Chris Elofson. For those of you not in the know, we've
been dating for, lets see, about six weeks now. If you don't
know who Chris is, you can get a very confusing idea of who
he is by checking out this year's Halloween pictures. He's
the impressively accurate impersonator of Captain Jack Sparrow.
I have been enjoying every minute we spend together, including
meeting his parents and hanging out with his friends, all
of whom are wonderfully delightful. And besides this source
of fun, and the usual enjoyment of my friends' company as
well, I'll be able to relax in a more formal fashion the week
after next in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for Spring Break. Here's
to the person who came up with Spring Break!!! It'll be quite
a group of people this year. My mom and Uncle Richard have
timeshares there with room for a total of 12 people. We are
bringing 10: Mom, Dave, Kristina, me, Uncle Richard, Uncle
Bruce and his gf, Chris, my co-worker Will, British Mark,
and Chris (see above). We might even have one more, but we'll
have to see if she can gather the $ in time to get a ticket
before they cost $2000. Regardless, the crew that we are gonna
have is totally freaking kick ass and random. I'm sure that
I'll have plenty to tell after that! I can't wait to get back
to the Ocean.
Oh, yeah, and one more quick note. I had a freaking blast
last weekend with the Beta Theta Pi boys, yet again. I ephing
love those guys. My friend from HS, Alex, invited me to a
San Carlos, Mexico weekend date dash. Good times, I assure
you, but you know what they say: "What happens in Mexico,
stays in Mexico!!!" Sorry, no details for you!
