Introduction to the strategies of interpreting and writing about literary texts, with attention to materials and methods of literary research.

Readings from three course packets posted on the course web site. The first will emphasize poems, the second short fiction, and the third comparative study of texts in different genres, including drama and film.<

In addition to weekly lectures, activities will include small group discussions and presentations, peer reviewing and editing, and individual conferences.

Six essays, including revisions; several quizzes; and mid-term and final exams
