Literature of the Bible: The Old Testament

Study of the Hebrew Scriptures in their double role as the Jewish Bible, or Tanakh, and the Christian Old Testament. Emphasis on the Bible as a source of stories rather than on the historical evidence behind those stories or the theological doctrines derived from them. Books to be studied include Genesis, Exodus, Samuel, Kings, Jeremiah, Ezra, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, and Job. Assignments include weekly discussions and esponses, several quizzes, two mid-term exams, and a final exam. The text used will be The Access Bible: New Revised Standard Version with Apocrypha (Oxford University Press).
