David Hume Pagination Converter

Convert SBN page numbers into universal references and vice versa

Enter either an SBN page number (e.g. 523) or an universal reference (e.g. 3.2.5.12) below:

Hints: To get the SBN page number for Preface 2 or Abstract 2 or Appendix 2, or to get the universal reference for SBN page number 2 from the Treatise and Abstract, simply enter '2' (without the quotes). Try it! Similarly, to get the SBN page number for the second dialogue from the EPM, enter '2' (again, without the quotes) and choose "EPM" from the drop-down menu. This converter will try to guess what you need, so just type in a number and you'll get back something meaningful. For example, enter '4.4' and choose the EPM from the drop-down menu and you'll get results for both paragraph 4.4 and Appendix 4.4.

This is a tool for scholars of David Hume's work, or for those of us who for some other reason have to read secondary literature on Hume's work or cite Hume. Much of the secondary literature uses older Selby-Bigge/Nidditch (SBN) page citations, which it is often useful to translate into an universal reference established by Oxford University Press editions of Hume's Treatise and Abstract (edited by Norton & Norton), as well as Hume's two Enquiries.

This converter is currently in beta, so if you notice any bugs, please let me know!
Created by Will Braynen on October 17, 2007.
Uses reformatted data originally prepared by David and Mary Norton.
Original data posted by the Hume Society as guides to parallel page and paragraph references.

After I had made this converter, I finally found the other converter.
I think mine has a more intuitive user interface.
Hopefully mine gives the same results...
