Teaching Experience

 

2012   Spring       Spanish Instructor, Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, Texas Tech University

 

Description: This was essentially the same work done in 2008-2010 as a “Graduate-Part Time Instructor”. The only difference was that that the department considered me now as an “Instructor”.

 

2012   Spring       ESL Instructor, Intensive English Program, Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, Texas Tech University

 

                             Description: Two Months of intensive English instruction for a group of learners from Saudi Arabia.

 

 

2011   Summer    ESL Instructor, International Teaching Assistant Workshop, Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, Texas Tech University

 

                             Description: One month of intensive training and instruction of a diverse group of graduate International Teaching Assistant (ITA) candidates on English language use for classroom management and instruction tasks. Responsibilities included: lesson planning, teaching six hours daily and assessing each ITA candidate.

 

 

 

2008-2010            Graduate Part-Time Spanish Instructor, Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, Texas Tech University

 

Description: Teaching three sections per semester ranging from first year to second year Spanish. Responsibilities included, following program’s syllabus, grading, and administrative practices. However, I was free to practice my own lesson planning and adapt materials to meet the curriculum goals.

 

 

2007-2008            Spanish Teaching Assistant, Classical and Modern Languages and

Literatures, Texas Tech University

 

Description: Assisting a Spanish Instructor with class activities, attendance and grading.

 

 

2009   Fall            ESL tutor

 

Description: Private tutoring for ESL students who attended the Intensive English Program at Texas Tech University.

 

 

2006   Summer    English Teacher, Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador 

 

Description: Three month service for the Middle School “Colegio Técnico Inocencio Parrales Y Guale". I taught three classes of 30-40 teenage boys per class. The program had no curriculum goals, no syllabi, and limited resources; this was an intense learning experience on my part.

 

 

 

Experience Abroad

 

2008   Summer    Independent excursion of Ecuador and Peru

 

                             Description: I traveled alone and stayed with various friends and family for two months. The purpose was to gain more Spanish proficiency and cultural experiences for instruction. I collected cultural relics and documented many experiences I later used for teaching culture.

 

 

2006   Summer    English Teacher, Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador

2002-2004            Missionary Service in Ecuador

 

Description: This was unpaid. It involved teaching, translating and physical labor for two full years all throughout the country of Ecuador.

2012-Present     TBA (I am currently analyzing journal, email and letter accounts of my life                                             abroad.This is a longitudinal autobiographical analysis that looks at the interaction                                between identity, perception and community in two distinct extended sovereigns of the                         same subject that lived in the same location. This may provide insight for Study                                     Abroad Research. I will post details by Dec. 2012.)

2007-2010            Served four times in the annual “Cultural Day” event representing South American Culture. 2005                     Translator for Spanish speaking victims of Hurricane Katrina that evacuated to Lubbock, Texas.
