      you are here wants you to submit works for our SUMMER 2008 issue. What does PLACE mean to you? How do we communicate WHERE we are to those who are distant? How do we experience, imagine, understand, and represent SPACE? We invite you to explore your own ideas and ask your own questions.

      Please read and follow all submission guidelines below.

S  U  B  M  I  S  S  I  O  N    G U  I  D  E  L  I  N  E  S:

      We encourage submissions from geographers, historians, anthropologists, architects, scientists, writers, artists, and anyone else interested in exploring the concepts of place and space. Writing should refrain from using terminology specific to one discipline, and should not be overtly academic in style. 

      you are here is an annual publication that focuses on a variety of perceptions of place, and ideas about how place is interpreted, experienced, and created. Submission formats have included, but are not limited to: short fiction, essays, memoirs, journals, photo-essays, interviews, poetry, painting, maps, collage, and photography.

      Include a cover letter with all submissions containing complete contact information.  Please also let us know how you heard about the journal.

      Original material will not be returned unless requested. If requesting that the material be returned after review, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with correct postage. 


    Poetry: 

      We will only consider three poems per author, so please select the work that fits best with the journal.

Fiction, Nonfiction and Essays: 

      Maximum length is 4,000 words. Shorter selections are more likely to be published.

      Writers are also encouraged to include photos, artwork, etc. to accompany their piece (following guidelines below).


     Photos/Artwork/Maps: 

      The journal is printed in black and white. Color images may be submitted, but you are here will consider them based on their ability to reproduce in black and white.

      Images may be submitted via email if the total file size is less than 5MB. Otherwise, please submit images electronically on a CD. Images must be submitted in a tiff file format at a resolution of at least 300 dpi at the size they are to be printed (journal pages are 7.5" by 9"). You may also submit originals through the mail (address below), and you are here will convert them to this format.

      We encourage you to submit text to accompany your images - please see text guidelines above. Please include your contact information (both email and postal addresses) on electronic or hard copy submissions. Finally, please include a SASE with correct postage if you want your work and/or disk returned to you.
       

    Please note that submissions are reviewed following the submission deadline for each issue.

    you are here holds first North American rights on all published materials. After publication, you are here retains nonexclusive rights for the continued use of your work in both print and electronic forms. As to all other uses, you retain all rights. If you intend to sell any manuscripts or artwork previously published by you are here, we request that you acknowledge its first appearance in you are here
