Study Guide for the Final Exam.
Music 334, Fall 2005
The test will take place on Monday, December 12 from 11:00-1:00 PM in Harvill Room 415 (our regular meeting room, but an earlier time). The format will be multiple-choice, matching
and true-false.
I. Listening.
Know the following selections
CD 2: items (tracks) 10-21; CD3 items (tracks)1-24.
Be able to match the sound of the piece with its title, composer (when applicable),
performer(s), date of piece or recording, cultural tradition, genre. Know signature
sound features of the selection such as instrumentation, manner of singing,
and other elements of style that distinguish the song or selection. Know in
what kinds of contexts you might hear it performed. Focus most on those examples
that connect to our class discussions.
II. Identification.
Review Chapters 5-10. Review the terms below, considering how each relates
to either the assigned readings or to our work in class. Review the terms listed
at the end of each chapter. The Soundscapes
website offers an online glossary for each of those terms, and practice
quizzes for each chapter. They might be useful for helping you to study for
the final exam. In addition to the terms at the close of the chapters, review
those below, considering the significance of each in relation to points emphasized
in the assigned readings or in our work in class.
