(Study tip) Though not required as a graded assignment for this class, I highly recommend keeping a listening journal. Record notes in the following three categories: Identification, Construction, Personal Response. For the identification category note the title of the item, the date of its original composition, composer or creator, performers, context where typ ically heard (historically and today). For the construction category, note features of musical structure that distinguish one selection from another (see O'Brien chapters 1-8). Don't forget to log your personal reaction to this piece.
