Consider how Mozart uses music to convey depth of character in the Marriage
of Figaro. How does he depict social status? How does he convey friendship
and shared perspectives? How is he aided by Da Ponte's libretto? Consider
the role of the ensemble numbers (moments in the drama where the more than
one character sings simultaneously). Do you think the Marriage of Figaro
betrays any of Mozart's feelings regarding the aristocracy and the role
of composers and others who served those in positions of power?
