1999-2000 Statistics from the FBI Uniform Crime
Reporting Program (UCR)
* The national estimate of 90,186 forcible rapes (female only) marks the first increase since 1992. It is unclear whether this is due to an increase in incidence or an increase in reporting. 1. This table reflects the number of forcible rapes
reported to law enforcement across the country during 1999 and 2000 and has the
following limitations: C. Research indicates that up to 80-90% of rapes are not reported and that stranger rapes are more likely to be reported then acquaintance rapes. D. The use of incidence rates in isolation may obscure the overall frequency of rape and attempted rape.
