Class focus:

This course examines U.S. history from the end of World War II to the present.
Some issues students will include: the role of the federal government, cultural, social, and technological changes, political shifts, the good and bad side of U.S. foreign policy among other topics.

In this class you will be historians, engaging in various activities that reflect a historical knowledge and the ability to analyze, research, and present aspects of US history. You will write both short essays and a 5-6-page paper. You will research a topic of your choosing, using internet sources. You will be required to give a brief 5-minute presentation on your research. You will engage your classmates in the daily discussions. You will examine videos, analyzing their themes and how they present US history. You will learn and have fun!

In addition to reviewing generally accepted interpretations of American history since 1945, my approach to teaching also incorporates, when feasible, alternative views, such as conservative and radical analysis. The overall goal is to provide students with a wider lens for understanding the events of the last (roughly) half-century, fifty five years of breathtaking change.
