Spring Break
Friday, March 14, 2008
It’s that time of year again. The week when college students are known nation-wide for traveling to places like California and Mexico and getting trashed. Just so everyone knows, not all college students go out and get drunk during Spring Break. Some of us have jobs, and therefore aren’t traveling. Some of us would actually prefer to stay home and get stuff done around the house. “Some of us” in this case refers to me, if you haven’t figured that out yet.
I have big plans for this next week. The first thing I did after getting home from my last class this afternoon was to do the online quiz for one of my classes. Then I sat down to work on my website and write this blog. That is pretty much how my whole week is going to be. I need to clean my room, clean the kitchen, and seriously consider rearranging furniture. I need to fix the front tire on my bike so I can pump it up and ride it again. I need to make up my mind about what I’m doing for a study-abroad program this summer, get the application done, and get everything paid for. I’m also scheduled to work. Yep, big plans.
In other news, I took a jump and joined Twitter yesterday. I’m still sort of getting a feel for it, trying to figure out how it works, but so far I think I like it. I didn’t come up with this idea all on my own, however; one of the blogs I read regularly is HackCollege. Kelly Sutton tells a story in a recent post about how he got to go the South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX, without needing to buy a pass, because of an acquaintance on Twitter. This post, in conjunction with others on their site and Lifehacker, made me curious to see if Twitter’s simplistic approach to social networking might have some value for business-related networking. Click here to see the original post on HackCollege. If you’re on Twitter, and interested in following me, you can find me here.
By the way, if your school is not celebrating Spring Break this week, I’m sorry for rubbing your nose in the fact that you have to go to classes. You can do the same to me during your week of freedom.
One last thing: I think I may have finally come up with an idea of stuff to write about. I’m going to write blogs about being a student, but being sure to include things I’ve learned in my experiences. When I do this, I’m going to put it on a separate site, hosted through Blogger. I haven’t worked out the details yet, but when I get my domain name, I’ll post it. My site here will be personal stuff, and the other one will be student-related. I think my first post is going to be about college applications, so a high-school-oriented post, but that could change. Keep an eye on me if you’re interested, I’ll try to do a better job of updating my site!
I’m kicking off Spring Break by working on my website. I know, I’m a nerd with no friends. Go ahead and laugh - I am.
