MILITARY SERVICE: None. However, the name "Isaac M. Staley" appears in the muster records and pay records of Company A, 4th Indiana Cavalry, 77th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. This is an error and was corrected by the Adjutant General's office March 9, 1866.

But he no doubt lived most of his life in Warren Township, Marion County (1846 to 1887)
OCCUPATION: Farmer, "shingle maker" (woodcutter, according to the 1850 census). Became a tollgate keeper on the "National Road" circa 1865. (Note: Here is a website with more information on the Indiana National Road.)
MEMBERSHIPS: A Granger
OTHER: He was "poor, honest and respected" according to Mr. Hunnington (sic?), a contemporary. According to other records, he was about 6'4" in height.
