The Mogollon Rim Historical Ecology Project (MRHEP) is an interdisciplinary research program designed to investigate the dynamic and dialectic relationship between humans and the environment of the Mogollon Rim Region over the last 13,000 years. Currently, MRHEP is funded by a grant from the International Arid Lands Consortium (Grant #05R-09 to V. T. Holliday). This grant funds the investigation of human influences on ancient fire regimes of ponderosa pine dominated forests along the Mogollon Rim during the last 2000 years. You can find the abstract of the proposal here. Christopher Roos, Project Director, is preparing this research as his dissertation project in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arizona.
On this page, you can find a description of the project area, including Quicktime 3D interactive files for each study watershed, a description of analyses and methods used, and a page where current preliminary results are posted, including links to posters presented at professional meetings.
Please check back often, as the analyses and interpretation are ongoing and this web-page is currently under construction. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Project Director, Christopher Roos at:
