August 2006: I am starting my 26th academic year on the faculty at
the University
of Arizona.
This fall I am teaching (with
a merry band of TAs) INDV
102
"Human Geography & Global Systems." In
the spring I will be teaching Geography/Planning
379
"Urban Growth and Development" and a graduate seminar (topic
TBA). My research focuses on the
dynamics of migration systems and methods for analyzing human
population
distribution and redistribution. Currently
I am interested especially in the migration across the life-cycle and
the
linkages between urban hierarchies and migration patterns. A recent paper reporting on this research was published in
the special spatial demography issue of the Proceedings
of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
My service activities include:
- Executive Secretary of the Western
Regional Science Association (WRSA)
- Program and Local Arrangements Chair
of the 46th Annual Meeting of the WRSA, to be held at the
Hyatt-Regency, Newport Beach California, USA, February 21-24, 2007
- Senior Editor, Journal of Regional
Science
- Past President, Pacific Regional
Science Conference Organization
- Past President, Association of Pacific Coast Geographers
