This bilingual foreign study program provides an enrichment experience for educators of Latino students, including those with special needs. Participants explore the culture and educational system of Mexico and the unique cultural and linguistic differences that influence and impact educators in the U.S. The summer program is held during the month of June.
Sponsored by The University of Arizona and the Study Abroad Office, the program consists of academic work, cultural activities, and experiences working with children, their families, and teachers. Site visits to educational agencies in Guadalajara, Michoacán, Querétaro, and San Miguel de Allende are also typically included.
Students can take up to 6 (six) credits, selected from those listed below. All graduate degree candidates should check with their advisors to determine the applicability of the credits toward degree programs. Undergraduates are also encouraged to apply with permission of the instructor. All courses are taught in English.
UA courses:
SERP 575: Observation and Participation in Regular and Special Education Programs. 1-3 Units
SERP 599: Independent Study (to be determined with the instructor). 1-3 Units
Intensive Spanish language instruction is offered at Institute Falcon in Guanajuato, Mexico. Prices vary depending upon # of hours taken. Optional, not for University Credit.
