I am an associate professor in the Department of Linguistics of the University of Arizona, Tucson. I also have appointments in the Cognitive Science Program, the Second Language Acquisition and Teaching Program, and the Department of East Asian Studies. My research is in the areas of phonetics, experimental phonology, and psycholinguistics, focusing on speech perception. My current research is primarily on speech reduction. I direct the Douglass Phonetics Lab. I also work on language revitalization for the dormant Native American language Mutsun (Costanoan, formerly spoken in coastal California). Language interests: Japanese, Dutch, and Mutsun.
