A close brush the light not yet formalized
in the early pine the light lowering cuts under face eyes intense shadows
walking on Mission Street gut level noise not heard so much as run over crushed
stones into the parking lot then wailing loss while shopping for something one
knows not who or what this is having been dropped here by the millions what is
this thing degraded out of all recognition unknown it can’t be something anyone
would think to build for what reason what use and all the time the wind is blowing
the clouds accumulating stacked up on shelves marked down the leftovers in a
basket beside the door coming and going it sees you though unseen behind the
curtain where we dined last night by the fires of the freeway guests huddled
under the bridge warmed by candles and apples opening towards winter again a
hummingbird suddenly winding up the chilly air.
