In addition to the references below I made frequent visits to the library over the time in this class. Before this class I had conversations with two AHSL librarians. Mary Holcomb was helped me understand the subject heading classifications used at the library. Mari Stoddard provided background information about the library and the development of hybrid print / electronic resources to meet user needs. The Brandon/Hill Selected List of Print Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library suggests several titles under the heading Toxicology. Mari Stoddard allowed me to use her copy. The library had the recommended books.
I used the online catalog to learn more about the subject headings and to search for materials of different types. I found Amazon.com very helpful because it provides reviews from Book news, Inc.
Last fall I attended a National library of Medicine training session on Toxicology resources at the AHSL. This provided valuable insight into the resources found online at the NLM Toxicology Resources site. I also discussed resource needs with faculty and researchers and provided training on the subject to teachers at the Summer Teacher Workshop sponsored by the SWEHSC - COEP.
