We will carry out three experiments during the semester.   Details of these experiments,  the background theory, and the procedure to be followed will be outlined in class.

It is important for you to make sure that you attend class when an experiment is being planned.   The reason for this is that we will not be providing a handout explaining what you have to do.  Much of the planning of the experiment will be done in class, and you are expected to participate. If you cannot attend class that day, try to arrange for someone else to take notes for you.

In the week following, you will design and construct the materials required for the experiment, and then test two volunteer subjects (friends, classmates, relatives, etc.).

After you have tested your subjects, you hand in a brief summary of what you did. This should include:

  • your name
  • details of the procedure you followed
  • copies of the materials used
  • the results for each of the two subjects you tested (don't combine them together).

Click here for an example of a successful write-up.

Satisfactory completion of at least three assignments is a course requirement.  This means that you will receive an Incomplete grade if you haven't completed the requirement.
