The Great Schism was a war fought between the Dragonian Empire and the Aleiran Empire around 1470 NC. Records are sketchy about who started the fight and both sides claim it was the other but the sure thing is that once it started nothing save nuclear weapons was held back.

The first major blow to each side occured late in 1469 NC and early 1470 NC when both sides first targeted the others orbitol space stations and communication satellites. Fighting focused mainly across the Great Sea as naval engagments were common place. The most bitter fighting was for the island chain in the middle of the Great Sea, Baharata. With it the Dragonian Empire was able to keep their ships and fighters supplied and fueled allowing them to take the offensive in late 1480 NC when Dragonian forces made land fall and siezed the city of Sisora.

With much of their industry destroyed in the Malik Plains the Alerians pulled back most of their troops to Icatia and the Pass of Bagrada. While the Aleirans dug into their position in the mountians the Dragonian Empire moved south and took the Trelton Islands, giving them a more eastern base.

When fighting finally hit Icatia the Dragonian ground forces were ground to a halt against the greatly fortified Alerian forces. It took three years and tens of thousands of lives before Icatia finally fell and the fighting moved past Altena and into the Intenion Plains.

In 1487 NC Alerian forces recaptured Icatia cutting supply lines and forcing a withdrawel to Altena where Icatia was retaken. By 1490 NC the Alerians were constantly falling back, always trying to slow the Dragonian Army and Airforce that were still moving across the Intenion Plains. In 1491 NC Keltoj fell to Dragonian forces allowing the final push on Naltiena. After bitter street to street fighting the capital building of the Alerian Empire was capture early in the year 1492 NC.

At this point the Dragonian Empire demanded the dissolution of the Alerian Imperial Court. While they officially disbanded the Imperial Court and accepted Dragonian rule ten years later in 1503 NC the Alerian Empire launched a total of 87 sleeper ships each carrying nearly 100,000 people out of the Frozen North.

Stunned and amazed the Dragonian Empire watched as nearly a million Alerians escaped the planet evetually forming the Galactic Alerian Imperium practically on the other side of the Galaxy.
