Concept Art: Ruqhnah Aspects |
||||
The ruqhnah
are a tall and strong species since their homeworld has approximately
1.5 times
the mass of Earth resulting in a planet with a slightly heavier gravity.
The average ruqhnah stands about six and a half to seven feet tall and
weighs about 220-280 lbs. The biggest distinguishing feature of a ruqhnah
are boney plates that grow along the head, shoulders and back. Quite
similiar to an armadillo the ruqhnah have four overlaping plates on their
head starting from just above the forehead to the upper back of the head.
Two larger diamond shaped plates grow on the back portion of the shoulder
and six more grow down the back mostly covering the spinal column.

This description is what I had come
to use when I thought about what a ruqhnah would look like and thus when
I tried to draw them
that was the aim I had. The picture on the right is what the naked back of
a male ruqhnah would look like. You can see the scales on the head,
back and shoulders.

The scales
that run down the back help protect the spine by adding more of a buffer
between it and
blunt trauma. The boney material is quite dense and hard making it quite
effective protection. Such protection probably evolved as a defense against
larger cratures such as the dragons of the world.

The plates themselves are
diamond shaped and slightly domed, giving some room to compress on impact.
Each bone is attached at the top end and inside and hangs freely towards
the bottom allowing the next plate to form resulting in the plates actually
overlaping some.
