What do you like to do on the weekends?

Depending on which side of the Pacific Ocean I am on. In China, I would
most probably drink Gongfu Tea and go shopping in the morning market.
In US, I would go for a good workout and stay away from emails for at
least half a day.


What is something that you wish to do and have not done much yet?

Travel, travel, and travel some more.

What is your proudest academic achievement?

My Ph.D. in Second and Foreign Language Education at The Ohio State University.

Wu Tang, Jun Liu

    Professor Wu Tang, my MA advisor who passed away on
    May 4, 2003 in Shanghai, China.

What has been your greatest professional accomplishment?

Being elected to be the first non-native English Speaking President for TESOL in its 40 years of history.

What is your most memorable speech ever given at a professional
conference?

The ThaiTESOL Keynote speech in January 2007 in
Bangkok as the first Asian TESOL President.

What is your philosophy of life?

Balancing between yin and yang.

What is your most unforgettable experience?

Rice field

Working in the countryside during the late Cultural Revolution in China, cutting rice and spreading manure from dawn to sunset, sustained by three bowls of rice with pickles only.

What's the most amusing thing that's ever happened to you?

Being mistaken for Jackie Chan in a bar in San Francisco, surrounded by admirers and getting free drinks until they asked me to show them some Gongfu.

What has been your most challenging professional experience?

Giving three talks in one day in three different places while sick with a stomach
flu in Nanjing, China in April 2003. But I made it.

Tom Yum Goog.

What has kept you in the desert for so many years?

Grand Canyon
