Dr. J. Leon Zhao is Eller Professor in the Department of Management Information Systems, University of Arizona. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Business Administration (1992) and an M.S. degree in Business Administration (1990) from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering (1985) from the College of Engineering, University of California, Davis, and a B.S. degree in Engineering (1982) from Beijing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization. Before joining University of Arizona in August 1999, he was an Assistant Professor in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the College of William and Mary, respectively. He has also worked as a Staff Scientist in the Computing Sciences and Applications Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California and as a Research Engineer in the Corporate Systems Development Division, Honeywell Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His current research focuses on the development of database and workflow technologies and their applications in electronic commerce, knowledge management, and organizational process automation. He has published (Including accepted) over 30 research articles in such journals as Management Science, Information Systems Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Journal of Management Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, Information Systems Frontiers, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, SIGMOD Record, Data Base, and Journal of Intelligent Information Systems. His work also appeared in over 60 refereed conference papers including Americas Conference on Information Systems, International Conference on Information Systems, Workshop on Electronic Business, Workshop on Information Technology and Systems, Very Large Data Base, Data Engineering, Information and Knowledge Management, Scientific and Statistical Database Management, and Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences.
Leon has served as an associate editor of Information Systems Research, Decision Support Systems, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, International Journal of Business Process Integration and Management, International Journal of Web and Grid Services, and International Journal of Web Services Research. and serves on the editorial board of Journal of Database Management. He is a co-founding director of the AIS Special Interest Group on Process Automation and Management (WWW.SIGPAM.COM). He was a co-editor of the Information Systems Frontier Special Issue on Workflow Automation, Vol. 3, No. 1, September 2001 (with Professor Edward A. Stohr).
