3. Wife: Espoused saint (1) means 'blessed
wife.' In
seventeenth-century Protestant terms, the word saint refers, not to
someone who has been canonized by the Roman Catholic Church, like
Mother Theresa, but to any blessed (sanctified) soul in heaven. Members
of some Protestant groups still refer to themselves as "Saints." In
America, for example, the Mormons call themselves "the Church of the
Latter Day Saints."
