Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Any class work missed as a result of tardiness or absence may not be made up. Students who miss more than three classes may be dropped within the first 8 weeks with a W. Students may fail during the second half of the semester for excessive absences. All holidays or special events observed by organized religions will be honored for those students who show affiliation with that particular religion. Absences pre-approved by the UA Dean of Students (or Dean's designee) will be honored.

Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism: All UA students are responsible for upholding the Code of Academic Integrity, available through the office of the Dean of Students and online at http://dos.web.arizona.edu/uapolicies/cai1.html. Submitting an item of academic work that has previously been submitted without fair citation of the original work or authorization by the faculty member supervising the work is prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct.

Class Conduct: All UA students are responsible for upholding the Student Code of Conduct, which can be read online at http://dos.web.arizona.edu/uapolicies/scc5308abcd.html

Disabilities Accommodations: If you anticipate accessibility issues related to the format or requirements of the course, please meet with your instructor to discuss solutions. If you plan to use reasonable accommodations, you must register with Disability Resources (621-3268) and self-identify through the established process. http://drc.arizona.edu

WARNING: THIS COURSE MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR FAITH. If you are a person of sharply defined religious beliefs, you may find your ideas challenged by opinions expressed in this class, by your fellow students as well as by your instructors. If you anticipate that such challenges may be unwelcome, you should discuss your concerns with the professor and/or with your TA.

Grades:

Weekly Quizzes & Participation: 20%

Exam 1 (February 22): 20%
Exam 2 (April 4): 20%
Final Exam (May 9): 40%

Course Requirements: All of the reading is to be completed by the day for which it is assigned. Weekly quizzes are intended to encourage compliance with that requirement. Quizzes will cover all of the assigned material, but they will ordinarily emphasize readings from the Bible itself rather than from supplementary materials (Handouts and Understanding the Bible). The quizzes will cover only the material assigned for the week in which the quiz is given.

The exams will consist of short answer questions and essays on assigned topics. The essay topics will be given a week in advance; the essays will be done at home and turned in when the exam is taken. The essays on the final exam will be cumulative; that is, they will require you to draw, selectively, upon your knowledge of texts read throughout the semester.

The exams during the semester (on February 22 and April 4) will be administered in the Friday sections of the class. The final exam will be administered in this room on Friday, May 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The short answer parts of the exams will cover only the material read since the previous exam.
