Grades & Evaluation Criteria
Evaluation criteria for major assignments will be included with
the assignment sheets. to provide you with a sense of expectations
for written work. In short, fulfillment of task requirements,
critical analysis, sufficient idea development, coherence, clarity,
language use, and mechanics (grammar, spelling, formatting) will
be the primary factors in determining your grade in the written
assignments.
Grading follows the standard guidelines used by the university:
A = 100-90
B = 80-90
C = 70-80
D = 60-70
E = 0-59
Work that is not submitted receives a failing grade of “0,”
whether or not I have seen previous drafts.
Requirements for Writing Assignments
• Students must complete all major assignments to qualify
for a passing grade in the course
• In- and out-of-class writing will be assigned throughout
the course. Students not in class when writing is assigned are
still responsible for meeting specified deadlines.
• Late work will not be accepted without penalty unless
students make arrangements for an extension before the due date.
Papers are marked down a letter grade for each day late.
• Drafts, which should exhibit significant changes, are
required elements of the writing process—papers will not
be accepted unless they are drafted and reviewed by peers and/or
the instructor
• Students should keep copies and backups of all drafts
and major assignments.
