My doctoral work in Border Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona, focuses on border theory and bilingualism. I am particularly interested in Mayan-Spanish bilingualism the Yucatán peninsula and local responses to NAFTA and the construction and growth of the tourist zone of Cancún. I am also interested in Mexican representations of the border, and treatment of the border in film and literature.
