II. Body dysmorphic disorder: an imagined defect in appearance in a normal-appearing person
III. Conversion disorder: an alteration or loss of function that is apparently related to a psychological conflict or need
A. Person not aware of producing symptoms (vs. malingering or factitious disorder)
B. Alteration in function cannot by explained by physical mechanisms
IV. Hypochondriasis: the preoccupation that one has a serious disease or illness, even though a thorough physical evaluation does not support this contention.
V. Somatization disorder: precludes diagnosis of hypochondriasis;
1. recurrent and multiple somatic complaints that are chronic, and began prior to age 30
2. need 4 pain symptoms, 2 gastrointestinal symptoms, one sexual symptom, and one pseudoneurological symptom
3. Not due to malingering
VI. Undifferentiated Somatoform disorder (new to DSM-IV)
1. 1+ physical complaints not explained fully by medical inquiry, or in excess of what would be expected for a given condition
2. Cause distress, last 6+ months
3. Not malingering
VII. Pain Disorder -- pain is the primary symptom and causes distress; not intentionally produced or feigned
1. With psychological features
2. With both psychological features and a general medical condition
3. With a general medical condition -- not an Axis I condition
I. Malingering (V Code): intentionally feign symptoms (physical or psychological) with a clearly identifiable goal
II. Factitious disorder; is the feigning of physical or psychological symptoms, without any identifiable secondary gain
