This clip is about how tourists learn proper ways of taking photos from an ethnic minority worker at the Chinese Ethnic Culture Park in Beijing. Taking photos is a common tourist behavior, but it is a cultivated behavior, as shown by this clip. Meanwhile, the teaching work done by the ethnic minority worker includes two related elements. One is the performance of ethnicity in front of the tourists; and the other involves the care of the tourists. What is at stake, therefore, is the way in which media consumption (in this case, photo-taking) is linked to Chinese cosmopolitanism and affective work.
