My research interests include cultural analysis of globalization, literary theory, social and political theory, and social movements. I am interested in studying the cultural effects of political and economic changes. I am especially interested in analyzing the ways in which those negatively affected by such transformations challenge dominant discourses through various forms of cultural production. The Border Studies Track within the Hispanic Literature doctoral program enables me to utilize a variety theoretical frameworks through which to more effectively study the connections between language, political economy, and culture. During the summer of 2006, I spent 6 weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina doing research that focused on the relationship between alternative communication and political resistance. I studied the role of alternative radio stations within the anti-systemic movements that developed in Argentina from the end of the last dictatorship until the late 1990s. I developed my MA thesis from the material I gathered during this trip. PDF of MA Thesis: "COMMUNICATION AND RESISTANCE: ALTERNATIVE RADIO AND NEW FORMS OF SOCIAL STRUGGLE IN ARGENTINA" |
