I spent the better part of 4 years serving on board the U.S.S. Pollock; a Fast Attack nuclear powered submarine with a Home Port of San Diego, CA. I was on her decommissioning crew and put her down at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA in March of 1989.
My navy career started in March of 1983 when I began basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. I was posted to the U.S.S. Pollock after two years in the navy's Nuclear Power Training Program. This included Electricians Mate training (Great Lakes, Ill), Nuclear Power School (Orlando, FL), and Prototype Training School(deserts of Idaho). I left active service on March 4, 1989 after having attained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer, earned my dolphins and qualified on all EM watches including Time/Bearing analysis and Geoplot.
