THE HORSERIDING
 
      The very term horseriding upsets Mr. Gradgrind because of
the way respectable people felt about "carnies": those people who
worked for small circuses, carnivals and other traveling
entertainments.

      Sissy was not ashamed of her father's job at first, so what 
is the point of Mr. Gradgrind's attempt to change the name of what
