Cummunity events
Loy Khathong festival is presented by the Thai American
Association on the National Mall near the Reflecting Pool each fall. The
Loy Khathong ritual is a mixture of Hinduism and Buddhism devoted to paying
respect to Mother River—whose waters sustain life. The community comes
together to make khathongs and to set them adrift on the water in thanks.
