Webmail servers are used to retrieve WWW pages via email. By sending email to the servers below, you can retrieve documents from the specified web site. Many of these servers also allow access to other types of Internet tools such as gopher, archie, ftp and others. The following is a list of current (June 1997) webmail servers, and links to documents on how to use these servers to access information (these webmail servers are sometimes unavailable for days or even weeks at a time without explanation. If you get an error or no reply, please retry in a day or so): ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WEBMAIL SERVERS (one can use any of these) Send email to: In the body of your message type ONLY the following: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ getweb@unganisha.idrc.ca GET http://... (then the URL) Note ** 15 requests a month maximum for shareware users. Special notes: 1. The GetWeb servers above can handle web pages which contain fill-in forms. Other webmail servers do not provide this ability. 2. The email servers listed here are for the most part operated by kind-hearted volunteers at companies or universities. If you abuse (or over-use) the servers, there's a very good chance they will be shut down permanently. This actually happened to several of the email servers recently, so treat them with respect. If you have direct Web access, let others who are less fortunate use the email servers. Try to limit your data transfers to one megabyte per day. Don't swamp the servers with many requests at a time. Thank you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- LINKS TO WEBMAIL INFORMATION For a copy of Dr. Bob's guide to webmail servers: -- If you live in the U.S., Canada or South America, send email to: mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu Enter only the following in the BODY of your message: send usenet/news.answers/internet-services/access-via-email -- In all other areas (Europe, Asia, etc.), for a copy of Dr. Bob's guide to webmail servers, send email to: mailbase@mailbase.ac.uk Enter only the following in the BODY of your message: send lis-iis e-access-inet.txt -- For a copy of the W3Mail server help guide, send email to: w3mail@gmd.de Enter only the following in the BODY of your message: help --------------------------------------------------------------------- Read information about the Agora webmail server (access this text via email by sending a message to agora@lanic.utexas.edu with only WWW in the body).
