MINITAB is a statistics software package that was designed to be used in teaching statistics but over time has developed into a powerfull but easy to learn and use package. The user is relatively insulated from the eccentricities of the particular operating system (MINITAB is available on a variety of platforms and operating systems). It also allows the user to treat data in a moderately simplistic way, i.e., as columns much like in a spreadsheet. Commands are also relatively descriptive, the three most useful being STOP (to exit the program), HELP (to find out something about the program) and OUTFILE or PAPER. The former allows the user to save everything that appears on screen into an ASCII file and PAPER sends to the printer a copy of everything that appears on screen.
