Delegation
of authority is simply the distribution of decisions from superiors to
subordinates. Decisions should be made at the lowest competent level. Responsibility
should be delegated as far down in the organization as possible. Coordination
of these responsibilities is accomplished through a network known as the
chain of command. This characteristic allows for an organization to divide
the work load among a large labor force which, being interdependent of
each other, allows for efficient production.
