Play Song (mp3)

Shenandoah is a beautiful traditional song that many people know. It has been recorded by hundreds of musicians including folk singers, country singers, jazz musicians and others. The old song is about ships and boats and the people who sailed them. It talks abouts traveling on rivers and the sea. Many people think of the Shenandoah valley in the state of Virginia when they hear this song. However, some verses describe a Native American chief named Shenandoah.. In some versions of the song a sailor from Canada falls in love the the chief's daughter.
