writer based in Tucson, Arizona, working mainly for Research Corporation and
the BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona. I am on the board of CEDO, a
marine and desert conservation and study lab in Rocky Point, Sonora, Mexico.

I have taught in many places, notably at the
University of Arizona and at
the University of Jos, in Nigeria, and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and I was head of
the journalism program at the American University in Cairo for two years. I have held workshops and lectures at
Columbia University Biosphere 2 campus and at Stanford, where I was part of
William Woo’s one-year graduate program in journalism.
