Evander
McKeever Smith – appears on the 1860 Overton County, TN Census (21st
of July, 1860), page 275 – Shows up as E. M. Smith, age 39 – Cabinet
Maker,
Place of Birth:
Evander also shows up on the 1850
Evander Also shows up on the 1840
Obvious discrepancies: The age of Evander varies from Census to census, which is why there are three years listed for his birth year.
There are many Evander McKeevers listed
during this
timeframe in the South. It is sometimes
spelled McKever, or McIver, although I understand even with this
spelling it is
pronounced McKeever. Some of the Others
found are Evander McKever Raulston, Evander McIver Betts, Evander
McKeever
Kilgore, Evander McIver Law, a General Evander Roderick McIver, and
even a few
plain Evander McIvers. While I find it
interesting that there are so many, I have yet to find a solid
connection to my
Evander.
Smith family legend says that
these Smiths are Scots-Irish.
