University Corporation of Atmospheric Research (UCAR)	A non-profit consortium of various university departments in the U.S. and Canada that perform research in atmospheric science: National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR), UCAR's institute that performs research and develops and provides tools and technology to the scientific community for atmospheric science research, through: NCAR Earth System Laboratory (NESL): Community Earth System Model (CESM), the global earth system model developed at NCAR. Computational & Information Systems Laboratory (CISL), the arm of NCAR that provides computational resources. CISL Portal NCAR Command Language (NCL) & NCAR Graphics, software developed at NCAR for data visualization. Research Data Archive (RDA), atmospheric science database. Research Applications Laboratory (RAL): Real-Time Weather UCAR Office of Programs, the division of UCAR that coordinates multiagency projects, disseminates data and technology, and provides training for atmospheric scientists: Unidata, UCAR's office for the dissemination of computer technology that aids atmospheric science research.

European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)	The international organization of European member nations that provides a numerical weather prediction model for medium-range forecasts and reanalyses to the international science community.
National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA)	The U.S. governmental agency in charge of launching satellites and other spacecraft, a large portion of which are used for geophysical research, including: AMSR-E CloudSat MODIS NASA also does research using the data derived from such satellites at several site, including: Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland Goddard Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), an office charged with maximizing the impact of satellite data through modeling and data assimilation. Modern Era Retrospective-Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA), GMAO's latest reanalysis product. National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)	The U.S. government's agency that oversees atmospheric and oceanic forecasting and research: National Weather Service (NWS), the NOAA division in charge of make weather forecasting and providing technology for such forecasts: National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), the NWS division that makes nationwide weather, climate, and oceanic forecasts and produces numerical weather prediction models: Climate Prediction Center (CPC) Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) Tropical Prediction Center (TPC) Office of Oceanic & Atmospheric Research, NOAA's office that oversees atmospheric and oceanic science research within the agency and the dissemination of monies for such research outside the agency.
