- Select a topic and find a website that covers that topic.
- Evaluate the website using the checklist provided.
- Evaluate the website using the contextual approach, conferring facts on the website with at least two other independent sources. Include at least one alternative website that presents the topic from a different cultural perspective.
- Create a website that reports in detail on your findings. This is essentially a web presentation that will be shared with the rest of the class. Please use detail in describing your evaluative methodologies and results. Be sure to follow these guidelines in the creation of your final product:
- The completed checklist must be attached and discussed on the site.
- The independent sources must be linked to and their credibility discussed, as well as how well they confirm or deny information found on the original website.
- At least two media must be used on the website to enhance the presentation. This can include video, audio, digital photography, an interactive tutorial, scanning, or another media of your choosing. Be sure to use the technology in such a way that it enhances the presentation.
- The website must adhere to copyright regulations and follow the fair use guidelines accordingly. Also be sure to use “netiquette” and ask permission if you are using another person’s work.
- Make sure that the website adheres to Section 508 as described in the Creating Accessible Websites tutorial (http://vision.unco.edu/AccessibleDesign/index.html). You may also see http://www.section508.gov/ for further details.
