Here are the data from our replication, courtesy of Jasmine Williamson. (Thanks).

The number of subjects in each graph is exactly 50 (One of the groups didn't submit raw data, and there were about 5 people missing from class that day).
Note how both errors decrease over trials. Since there is no trade off between false alarms and misses, we know there was improvement over time rather than just a change in strategy or bias.
Note also the scale for both misses and false alarms. If we convert to percent, it looks like there are about 25% misses on the first trial, and the false alarm rate is about double that, or about 50%. So on the first trial, for half of the real distracters (17 of them) subjects indicated there was a target present when there was none, and a quarter of the time when there was a target, subjects missed it. By the last trial, the rate of misses was cut in half, and false alarms go down all the way to about 10%. (Both misses an false alarms end up at around the same low rate on the last trial of between 10 and 12%).
We didn't calculate standard deviations/error bars.

On the spatial assignment, three people were charged with this one. All three were excellent. Each of you wrote something that was insightful, interesting, and clear. If you want to talk further to me or to each other about space perception, please let me know.
On the second auditory extra credit problem - only 2 souls were brave enough to try- and I'm happy to report you both get full credit. I've already talked to one of you about it and haven't yet to the other. Interestingly, each of you got very different results. I'd like the 2 of you to get together and see if you agree what you did differently. See me to figure out how to coordinate if you don't know who each other is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See me to pick up assignments if they are not handed back in class. I'll often leave them on the desk before class as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Five people got extra credit on the "class vs. article" assignment, and two were awarded 1/2 extra credit. (15 people submitted the assignment).
They are:
M.E.
S. (can't read last name-female student)
T.G.
A.Y.
C.E.
The following people got 1/2 extra credit:
C.P.
Z.U.
For those who didn't get it, better luck next time and no penalty for trying of course. Play again soon.
(if you needed a grade to make up an assignment, a grade was placed on your paper- you can still replace it with something else if you are not satisfied with your grade)
