Practice reading aloud from The Country Wife--we will "stage"
parts of it in class this week! What fun! Which character would you
like to perform? Would you be Horner? Margery? Lady Fidget? Sparkish?
Think about it, and try on a few of these personas for kicks. Also,
stage the play in your imagination as you read. How should props be
positioned? How should an actor play a particular part? How do the
characters move around on the stage? How might a scene change if it
were played or staged differently?
ASSIGNMENT: Write down and
bring to class one or two good questions about the play.
For example: Does a particular scene fascinate you? Confuse you? Are
there bits of language that you'd like to understand better? Are there
references to external events that you'd like to know more about? Be
prepared to raise your question(s) in class; I will collect your
written questions before the end of class.
